Night Rating


Are you looking to fly at Night?

 
The night rating program trains a holder of a Private Pilot Licence to fly safely and legally at night. The night rating is also a part of the CPL program and can be added to the PPL licence as an endorsement.

Night Rating Admission Requirements

  • Candidates must be 17 years of age for issuance of night rating

  • A Category 1 or 3 medical certificate

  • A valid Private Pilot Licence

    Night Rating Program Requirements

    • Minimum 20 hours of flight required by Transport Canada (5 hours are credited from PPL instrument training)

    • Dual Training: 5 hours (minimum)

    • Solo Training: 5 hours (minimum)

    • Dual Instrument Training: 5 hours

    • Completion of a qualifying flight adhering to the Flight Instructor’s guide under Transport Canada

       

      Night Rating Cost


      Dual Training (10 hours) $283 per hour
      Solo Training (5 hours) $208 per hour
      Ground Briefing (5 hours) $75 per hour
      Application Fee $250
      Administration Fee $250

       
      • Estimated cost of the night rating is $4,745 based on Transport Canada minimum requirements. Actual hours and costs can vary depending on individual student performance.
      • Licensing related fees $220.
